  • This Payroll Director will report to the Controller and payroll reports into accounting.  Previous experience reporting to HR is admired but real accounting knowledge and the impact to the financials are critical for the success in this position.
  • Reporting to the Corporate Controller, you will have a deep understanding of payroll management, accounting principles, and compliance with industry regulations leading and impacting the decisions for the company in this area!

WHAT THEY OFFER YOU
  • The Director of Payroll & HR Accounting will oversee and manage the people associated with the payroll functions and HR accounting processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

LOCATION: 
  • South Charlotte, Hybrid 3-4 days in office
 
WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT:

Payroll Management:
  • Oversee and ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees, including regular, overtime, and prevailing wage calculations.
  • Manage payroll systems using ADP, including system configuration, updates, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and implement payroll policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
HR Accounting:
  • Supervise HR accounting functions, including employee deductions, benefits administration, and tax reporting.
  • Ensure accurate recording of payroll transactions and proper reconciliation of payroll accounts.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial reports related to payroll and HR accounting.
Compliance and Reporting:
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, wage and hour regulations, and union agreements (if applicable).
  • Manage audits related to payroll and HR accounting, including internal and external audits.
  • Prepare and submit required regulatory filings, such as payroll tax reports and EEO-1 reports.
Team Leadership:
  • Lead and mentor a team of payroll and accounting professionals, providing guidance and support for their professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative and efficient team environment to meet payroll and accounting objectives.
Process Improvement:
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance payroll accuracy, efficiency, and overall effectiveness.
  • Stay current with industry best practices and technological advancements in payroll and HR accounting.
  • Strategic Collaboration:
  • Work closely with HR, Finance, and Operations teams to align payroll and accounting practices with organizational goals.
  • Provide insights and recommendations on payroll and accounting matters to senior leadership.
 
THE BACKGROUND THAT FITS:
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in payroll and HR accounting, with at least 5 years in a senior management or director role.
  • Proven experience managing payroll for blue-collar trade or construction employees using ADP systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field. CPA or other relevant certifications are a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll processing, accounting principles, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with ADP payroll systems and related software.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and integrity.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
