WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT: 
  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for multiple sites, ensuring accurate and timely execution of weekly, biweekly, and semi-monthly payrolls.
  • Collaborate with HR, finance, and other relevant departments to gather and verify payroll data, such as new hires, terminations, promotions, and changes in compensation.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of California payroll laws and regulations to ensure compliance with state-specific requirements.
  • Calculate and process various payroll elements, including regular wages, overtime, commissions, bonuses, benefits, and deductions, while ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Perform audits and reviews of payroll data to identify discrepancies and rectify issues before processing.
  • Generate payroll reports for management, finance, and other stakeholders as needed, providing insights into labor costs, trends, and variances.
  • Manage and respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees, addressing concerns and providing clear and helpful explanations.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, changes in payroll regulations, and best practices to continuously improve payroll processes.
  • Lead and mentor a payroll team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors, such as payroll software providers and tax authorities, to resolve technical issues, implement updates, and ensure compliance.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, suggesting enhancements to streamline payroll operations and enhance efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, ensuring confidentiality and security of sensitive employee information.

THE BACKGROUND THAT FITS: 

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus.
  • 5+ of progressive experience in payroll management, with a demonstrated history of overseeing multi-site payroll operations.
  • Proficiency in California payroll regulations and laws, ensuring compliance with complex state requirements.
  • Strong understanding of different payroll frequencies, including weekly, biweekly, and semi-monthly cycles.
  • Experience with payroll software systems and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify discrepancies and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy, even under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain payroll-related matters to employees and stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when dealing with sensitive employee information.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in regulations and technology and implement necessary adjustments to payroll processes.
