WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT
Create technology standards and architecture principles focused on high availability, low latency, fault tolerance, low cost of development, fast time to market and low cost of operations solutions/services.
Drive operational design focused on optimizing customer results in the production environment
Formulate and drive best practices around production design – patterns and anti-patterns for the intersection of software services and infrastructure for both cloud (IaaS) and hosted (data center) operations.
Build the strategic systems/solutions technology roadmap aligned to each of the business units.
Lead the research and evaluation of new technology and new designs.
Determine how MW can take advantage of changing usage and trends in the industry.
Lead Agile meetings and manage engineering team
Facilitate design reviews of products and services to ensure they are performing acceptably, comparatively low cost, easy to maintain and well monitored.
Lead efforts to conduct risk management assessment early to predict and prevent runtime defects while also handling issue management for defects that were not predicted.
Leverage your technical experience to mentor and coach team members.
Participate in and lead cross-company technology initiatives.
THE BACKGROUND THAT FITS
MS degree in Computer Science or closely related discipline or a BS degree with significant relevant experience.
10+ years experience of services, product development, or infrastructure experience.
5-10 years of design experience with medium to large-scale mixed operating system production environments, preferably as part of an online service provider environment.
Significant experience with database, network, systems and software engineering
Excellent verbal and written communicator. You'll be leading a team of 3 Software Engineers and partnering with stakeholders within the business.
Deep understanding of the fundamentals required to build highly available and scalable services.
Understands and can articulate the benefits and associated trade-offs between asynchronous and synchronous processing, various methods for sharding and segmenting services, and how to foresee, plan for, and prevent scaling bottlenecks.
Solid financial acumen – understand the cost tradeoffs of various technology decisions.
