WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT:

The Group Controller will be responsible for creating and improving accounting processes for optimizing the monthly close-the-book process. This position oversees Corporate general ledger activities, fixed asset accounting, lease accounting and advertising funds for the retail locations. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded individual with excellent customer service skills, a strong accounting background, and a proven leader.

Reporting Responsibilities

• Ownership over all Corporate accounting
• Establish a uniform financial reporting structure
• Preparation of financial reports and variance analysis of final figures for business unit
• Joint preparation of the overall financial statements in coordination with other business unit controllers, assistant controller, controller, and CFO
• Process documentation of current GL activities including accrual calculations
• Documentation of weaknesses and proposals for controls
• Propose solutions to streamline current processes/activities

Management Responsibilities

• Establish and manage job requirements for staff analyst(s) in the corporate segment
• Manage staff analyst(s) performance
• Support Financial Reporting Team with consolidated accounting items
• Support any company presidents or officers of the company with reporting packages and/or details and analysis related to those financials

Monthly/Annual Financial Cycles

• Oversee and support the preparation of all monthly reporting and analysis
• Facilitate, complete, and review all month-end closing activities for the corporate segment.
• Calculate accruals for any outstanding items
• Review all monthly/quarterly cycle entries for posting to the GL
• Review/prepare reconciliations over GL accounts for external audit purposes
• Analyze and account for all advertising fund programs

Qualifications

• BS Degree with emphasis in accounting.
• 7+ years of accounting and management experience.
• Strong analytic and quantitative skills.
• Additional criteria that would be a plus:
  • Masters or MBA.
  • Public accounting experience.
  • CPA license.
