As Regulatory & Compliance Counsel, you will proactively assess legal risk on consumer financial services-related issues and use your experience to provide smart, practical guidance. You will report to the Senior Regulatory & Compliance Counsel and work closely with members of our Legal team and cross-functional teams across the organization. The role requires a self-motivated and highly collaborative individual who excels in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

What You'll Do:
    • Managing cross-functional legal regulatory and compliance efforts in the areas of consumer protection and consumer financial services regulation
    • Assessing the business impact of new and evolving regulatory requirements, both state and federal, in the consumer financial products space and providing actionable, business-savvy guidance to business stakeholders
    • Advising business on state licensing requirements and related compliance projects, including applications and examinations
    • Responding to external inquiries, including customer questions and regulatory or law enforcement requests
    • Proactively raising and addressing legal and regulatory risks related to strategic initiatives and innovative partnerships
    • Educating stakeholders in a simple, easy to understand way about regulatory issues and innovating on ways to foster a culture of compliance and learning
    • Making assertive recommendations on when and how to take smart risks to achieve the business s goals
    • Knowing what and how to communicate with others to identify and address underlying problems arising in regulatory or operational areas
    • Managing a high volume of work while being able to maintain perspective and prioritize the work according to company goals
    • Providing support, guidance, and coaching to junior team members and providing thoughtful feedback to others on the Legal team and throughout the organization to help them grow

What We Expect:
    • JD and excellent academic credentials
    • Member of any state bar association
    • 4+ years of relevant experience, including expertise in consumer finance, consumer protection, privacy and cybersecurity laws, such as FCRA, TILA, ECOA, UDAP, GLBA, and other state and federal statutes
    • Experience advising on consumer disputes, litigation, and regulatory inquiries
    • Familiarity with state licensing requirements, such mortgage broker or lender licensing
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders
    • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
    • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage projects
    • Intellectual creativity and problem-solving skills that involve taking smart legal risks
    • Knowledge of consumer services and current trends in the financial technology industry, including data innovation trends
